Thank you Beyoncé

I have Beyoncé to thank for my run tonight.

While trucking along on the treadmill, I decided that “Run the World (Girls)” might just be the best song ever to listen to while running. Admittedly, maybe not for everyone — the dudes out there might not feel me — but the ladies must. I mean think about it…if these lyrics can’t keep a lady running, what can?

This is pretty much what was happening in my head tonight:

B: Who run the world? GIRLS

Me: Running stinks

B: Who run this mutha?

Me: When will this run be over?

B: This goes out to all my girls that’s in the club rocking the latest

Me: I just want to go home, sit on the couch and watch the latest episode of Smash

B: I remind you I’m so hood with this

Me: Um, seriously…when is this going to be over? Should I stop now?

B: I’m reppin’ for the girls who taking over the world, help me raise a glass for the college grads

Me: Remind me why I’m doing this…oh my wedding dress, yes, yes of course

B: Strong enough to bear the children

Me: Hey, you’re actually doing pretty good

B: Who run the world? GIRLS...

Me: All done — nice work!

I can’t say that I’m a person who loves running (unfortunately). To be quite honest, most of the time I don’t want to go to the gym and run, but I force myself to and about 99.9% of the time I feel good about myself when I’m done. Some days it’s hard to just get myself to the gym, and some days I get to the gym okay, but it’s hard to physically get myself through a workout. Tonight I remembered why music really helps me get through a workout. I haven’t been bringing my iPod lately while I run (for whatever reason…not quite sure), but I needed an extra pick-me-up today, so I created a playlist and thankfully the music really kept me running. Without it I feel like I would have been very tempted to give up after five minutes, but Beyoncé worked like a charm. So, thank you. ;)

My playlist from tonight’s run:

  • Countdown
  • Run the World (Girls)
  • Love on Top
  • Check On It
  • Get Me Bodied
  • Upgrade U
  • Ego
  • Ring the Alarm

What gets you through a workout?

The countdown is on…

It is officially 3 weeks from today till Meg and Matt’s wedding in Ireland! I can’t believe it’s coming SO soon now – it’s gonna be a blast!!! On that note, I went to the gym tonight because I truly need to be good these last few weeks – it’s crunch time baby. I’m wearing a strapless dress and my guns gotta look good you feel me?

Quick post tonight, because I am exhausted due to the Celtics

The weekend was great – Friday night a bunch of us went to Sissy K’s after work to enjoy some classy $1.50 drafts along with a dance party, felt like I was in college again. It was fun and I was even in bed by midnight, gotta love it. Saturday Colin’s parents were down helping Colin’s sister Liz move into her new apartment, so Colin and I went over to help. What a beautiful place it is! She is going to have a great time!

Afterward, we went to dinner downtown to Grill 23. It was beautiful and delicious! I ordered the Prime Flatiron steak au poivre which came with potato, cheddar & saucisson gratin – YUM. We also got mac n’ cheese, broccoli gratin, pomme frites and mashed potatoes as sides along with some red wine. We were all so full when we left! Such a lovely evening.

Sunday we went to mass and then I headed up to Andover to help Meg with some final wedding things. I literally can not believe it’s so close now! We had a nice afternoon/evening. Meg even fed me dinner and dessert, such a good big sister! I was so hungry I didn’t catch a picture of my dinner, but here is the amazing dessert Meg whipped up.

mmm mmm good

Lady was so excited to see me, and vice versa – I miss that little bugger! She recently got shaved (because she basically had dreadlocks…) so I have included ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures – just like when I got my hair done a few weeks ago. I think she might look a little funnier than me?! Maybe not…. haha :)

Before -

Shaggy and dreadlocked

After -

Hahaha poor Lady!

Little ratdog

I still love you Lady <3

Goodnight!

Falling asleep on the train is embarrassing

Its been a long week, I’m pretty tired. Who isn’t?

I got on the train, grabbed a great seat (no one squished in next to me!), and opened my book. I don’t think I even made it through a full sentence; I fell right asleep. I didn’t just take a light snooze though, I full on passed out. When I woke up I was sprawled out, things everywhere, apparently just not giving a crap about people watching me with my mouth fully opened and most likely a little drool coming out.

I quickly got over the embarrassment, I mean what do you want me to do? I’m tired! My only problem at this point  – well maybe not my only problem, but my main problem at this point – was that I had to dig deep in order to find some motivation to go to the gym and run 3 miles. This is the last thing I wanted to do, but since I am training for a half-marathon and have made the commitment I decided to just turn off the complaints running through my head and just get ‘er done.

My workout went smoothly and when I was done I was really happy that I pushed through. It’s so easy to complain and to talk yourself out of going to the gym, going outside for a run, going to a class, etc. but you know that once you just shut up and do it you’ll feel great about yourself, maybe even a little proud. Even if throughout the whole workout you can not wait until you’re done and are able to just go home, it’s worth it.

Something that helps me keep my energy up is music. Here’s a playlist with a ton of good songs that’ll help you keep going.
